Catherine Sweetman

I have been at Champion since July of 2006. I earned a BA degree in music from Westmont College and before coming here was a Bible Study Fellowship teaching leader for 6 years. I work full time as the Registrar and am privileged to teach 10th grade Bible (The New Testament).  My appreciation for Champion runs deep.  When hired I was able to have my daughter come for her last 2 years of high school.  Having her brothers attend public school and my daughter 2 years at a public high school I was able to experience/witness the contrast between the public and Christian environment as well as the smaller class size.  I asked my daughter what she appreciated about Champion.  Hands down it was the freedom to express Christian values and more pointedly the absense of gang activity and general lack of morals endured in the public school.  Here I witnessed her being accepted and loved by fellow students.  As a parent I appreciated the personal involvement of her teachers encouraging her even in her most difficult classes.  For me working here is a God given privilege.  To be able to encourage students in their faith walk, and provide them with a working knowledge of scripture is a wonderful challenge and joy.

Miss Audra Hoyt

My name is Audra Hoyt and this is my second year as a permanent teacher at Champion. Currently, I am teaching U.S. History, World History, Bible 9, Theater Arts and serving as the Librarian. As an alumna, Champion is special to me. My family was very involved in Champion’s early years. I started 7th grade here in Fall 1994, my Mom was hired as a teacher the following year and my sister began Junior High in 1996. For the six years I was a student here I participated in everything- Cheerleading, Volleyball, Softball, the School Play, and the list goes on. I have many special memories of my days as a Champion student and I hope to help current students make those same memories.

After I graduated in Spring 2000, I attended Chico State were I majored in History. I then received a Graduate Residential Scholarship Award to Boise State University in Idaho. I finished my Masters in Applied Historical Research in Spring 2007. I greatly enjoyed my time in graduate school and my students know how much I love Boise State football! In addition to my work at Champion, I am also the Assistant Curator at the Chico Museum. As a Curator I research, write and create exhibits for the museum. It is challenging but rewarding to see the finished product. I am blessed to be able to share history with people of all ages both at the Chico Museum and here at Champion.

Mr. Glenn Doney

This is my 12th year teaching at Champion Christian School and what a blessing it has been!.  I graduated from Multnomah Bible College in Portland, OR with a Bachelors in Christian Education and a double major in Bible.   This year I am teaching Bible 10, Health, JH Elective, Computer Literacy, and Yearbook.  My duties also include tech support, the school website and newsletter.  Prior to Champion I was a nurse for 12 years and before that served the Lord in Christian Education and Youth Ministry for 8 years. My business in medical database and web development has also helped me to serve here at Champion.

It has been very satisfying to share in the discipling of young people, influencing them to follow Christ and to develop His qualities of character.  The ministry of Champion Christian School gives Jesus, our Creator and Savior, His rightful place at the center of every subject.  Whether Bible, Science, Math or even Technology, Christ unifies all truth because He is the Way, the Truth and the Life. (John 14:6)  What a privilege it is to help provide a Christian education!

When I was 16 years old a new family moved in down the street from my family and their house had a basketball hoop. Instantly a friendship was formed with one of the coolest guys I have ever met in my life. For the next six months or so he pestered me about attending his youth group. Finally he broke me down and I went. I thought it was pretty cool, so I decided to fake church for the next five years of my life. Then something happened – In college, I met this smokin’ hot girl in a musical theatre class that invited me to church. I liked it so much that I continued attending church, gave my life to Jesus, and I married that girl.

Mr. John Pease

I was born and raised here in Chico. I went through the 11th grade at Pleasant Valley High School before moving to Petaluma to finish High School and attend Santa Rosa Junior College.  I finished my college at CSU, Chico with a degree in Mathematics. Prior to Champion I was a member of the P.G.A. (Professional Golfers Association) for 17 years. While I have been at Champion (12 years) I have taught Mathematics, PE, and Science. I was the Principal for a year, Boys Dean for 6 years, and have been the Athletic Director for the past 4 years. I have been married to an awesome woman of God (Debbie) for 25 years. It was with Debbie’s pushing (with God’s help) that I became a Christian. We were married in the small town of Healdsburg on the 9th green of the golf course that I was working at. We have two (2) wonderful sons who attended Champion for all 6 years. Robert, a 2007 graduate, is currently in the Air Force and stationed in Washington at McCord Air Force Base. He is getting base reassigned to Germany within the month. He loves to hang with friends and play golf. Timothy, a 2010 graduate, is currently attending Butte College and working at Bidwell Golf Course. He loves to cook and looks forward to attending a culinary school in the near future. Tim likes to be with his friends, cook meals for his family, and venture out on his bike. God has blessed me here at Champion. I love to see Him work through our students...He is an AWESOME GOD.

Mr. Michael Griffin

Mr. GriffinTEACHING: This is my fourth year teaching at Champion
Christian School. I teach English 7/8, English 10, English 11, English 12, and AP Language and
Mr. Griffin Composition. I am the ASB co-adviser.

EDUCATION: I earned my single-subject teaching credential (English) from Chico State, a master’s degree in journalism from Northeastern University (Boston), and a bachelor’s degree in English from Boston College. I bring additional teaching experience as a part-time composition instructor at Butte College. Before teaching, I worked as a newspaper journalist for many years in California and Massachusetts. I also have an A.C.S.I. teaching
credential.

GOD: My favorite parts of the Bible are the Sermon on the Mount (Matthew 5, 6, and 7) and Pressing
Toward the GMandatory Teacher Self-Defenseoal (Philippians 3.12-2.21). As for my testimony, it focuses on how the Holy Spirit shifted my worldview more than nine years ago. My wife and two daughters witnessed to me through Bible studies and stories from my girls’ Christian elementary school. Although I started to accept Jesus, I struggled with the validity of the Bible. That changed dramatically one day when a Christian archeologist spoke at my church. He gave examples where he and other archeologists and researchers were able to prove historical claims stated in the Bible. After he finished speaking, I questioned myself as to why I had doubted the Bible. I left church that day with more faith and patience to accept that although there are still mysteries in the world people continue to unearth evidence to support the Bible.

Mrs. Barbara Massey

I first became aquainted with Champion when my oldest son, Dana, entered as a Freshmen back in 1999. He and my youngest son, Sean, are both Champion graduates. I have two older daughters, Stephanie
age 31 and Sarah age 28 who have blessed me with six beautiful grandchildren. Dana is also married and has a daughter. I remember the first orientation I attended way back when and I knew then that I wanted to be a teacher here. At that time, I was teaching 5th through 8th grades at a small private school in Paradise. Since I had no formal training, I decided to go back to school so I could better my chances to get hired! When Sean was entering his Senior year, I was encouraged by a friend to apply. I knew I wasn’t qualified with a degree yet so I took on the role of Gideon and placed a fleece before God. I told Him that if He wanted me to work at Champion, He could make it happen. Well, I’ve been teaching here as well as obtaining my degree from Chico State ever since.

Along the way, I have experienced personal trials. My husband and I separated and have divorced but the support I have received here is immeasurable. The Champion family that draws so many parents and students has taken on a personal application for me. I am so thankful that I have been accepted. It is those relationships with staff as well as students and families that has enabled my growth as a teacher and a woman of God.

Currently, I am teaching seven preps including a Prealgebra/Algebra 1 combination, Algebra 2, Consumer Math, Junior High World Studies, Junior High Life Science, and 9th grade English. Yes, I am a bit overwhelmed but I love the students and I love math so I press on in spite of all the correcting of papers! I am finishing my last semester at Chico State before entering the credential program which I would like to accomplish at Champion. I love everything about teaching here and know that it is God’s call on my life. How blessed I am to be doing what I love. I also do stats for the football team and am the biggest fan of all Champion sports!

Mrs. Claire Hansen

This is my fifth year at Champion Christian School. I am now serving as Vice Principal and I also teach Social Science classes. As Vice Principal I am in charge of student activiies, discipline, mentoring new teachers, and overseeing the curriculum.  After being widowed with a young daughter, Sarah, who is now grown, God enabled me to pursue my B.A. Degree in Liberal Arts from Christ College Irvine, then a teaching credential from California State University, Long Beach. In May of 2009, I completed my M.A. in Curriculum & Instruction from Chico State and conpleted my Administrative Credential in May of 2010. I have an A.C.S.I. Teaching credential and in June of 2010 I obtained my Adminisrative A.C.S.I. Credential.  Before coming to Champion I taught ten years in public schools at the middle and high school levels. I thank God for bringing me to Champion and I love teaching my students facts about history, economics, and government and enjoy the freedom of incorporating God’s truths in these areas. The current events of today show how vital it is that our students understand history through the lens of biblical truths.

Mrs. Jackie Vieira

My name is Jackie Vieira and it has been my pleasure to have joined Champion in May of this year as part-time bookkeeper. Working here at Champion perfectly compliments my job as office manager at Redeemer Evangelical Lutheran Church, where I have been for almost eight years. My husband of almost thirty-eight years, Steve, and I have four children and eight grandchildren with whom we enjoy being outdoors in God’s wondrous creation. I, personally, love the sounds of a school…the echoes of voices and laughter in the hallways bring back memories of simpler times. Times that my Savior is calling me back to.  Luke 18:16-17 says, But Jesus called the children to him, and said, “Let the children come to me, and do not stop them, because the Kingdom of God belongs to such as these. Remember this! Whoever does not receive the kingdom of God like a child will never enter it.”

Mrs. Jonna Williams

Mrs. Jonna WilliamsHi! My name is Jonna Williams. This is my first year at Champion teaching Biology
and Integrated Science and I love it! I came to Champion through my son Noah. He came home from his church camp this last summer and told us that the Lord had been speaking to him about attending Champion. After interviewing the school, I found a position at the school had opened up and I excitedly applied. Being hired was a blessing for my son and me. Noah is able to attend the school the Lord was leading him to and I am able to teach at a fabulous Christian school while completing my Bachelor of Liberal Studies degree with a minor in mathematics.

My son is the youngest of three children. I have two daughters, Kyra and Holly. Kyra is living in Oregon and working at a bank. Holly is attending Butte College and working toward a degree in Chemistry. Their dad is Korey Williams, whom I have been happily married to for over 20 years now. He teaches Yearbook and computers at a local Jr. High.

I feel absolutely blessed as I begin each day with these wonderful students in my classroom. Champion Rocks!!

While at Champion I’ve been able to teach Physical Science, Integrated Science, Chemistry, Anatomy & Physiology, and Physics.  I’m also working on updating our accreditation through ACSI and WASC.
My husband, Ken, and I have been happily married for 29 years and we have three wonderful children.  My eldest son, Timothy, attends college at Oregon State University and will graduate this year.  My middle son, Alexander, is a senior at California State University, Chico.  My daughter, Rachael, is a senior at Champion!  Hurrah!  I asked Jesus into my heart when I was seven.
Teaching at Champion has been so wonderful!  I told my students over and over again last year that that had been the best year I’d had in 29 years of teaching.  This year is climbin’ the charts! The students, although not perfect, are pretty close to “practically perfect in every way!” They are funny, kind, and enthusiastic, and I thank God every day for a job that I love and students that fill my heart with joy.
