HIGH SCHOOL PHYSICAL EDUCATION - GIRLS
(1 year - 10 credits - grades 9-12)
COURSE OBJECTIVES:
1 Each student will attempt to perfect her skills in soccer, lacrosse, aerobics, volleyball, and basketball.
2 The student will demonstrate her understanding of each sport by playing each sport in class.
3 Each student will attempt to plan offensive and defensive strategy.
4 Each student will work to improve her level of physical fitness and demonstrate this by taking periodical tests on sit-ups, pushups, and running
5. The student will develop the discipline to dress for physical education everyday and be prepared for the current days’ activity.
6 Each student will demonstrate proper technique for performing exercises of strength, flexibility, and cardiovascular endurance
7. Each student will be able to accomplish 125 consecutive sit-ups and 10 push-ups.
For each of the following activities, the student will be able to:
Aerobics
A. Demonstrate ability to follow directions.
B. Perform up to five steps consecutively.
C. Implement rhythmic movement in proper timing.
D. Perform up to optimum heart rate.
Volleyball
A. Bump, set, overhand serve and spike successfully.
B. Understand and execute patterns of play for offense and defense
C. Understand rules of play.
Physical Fitness
A. Perform a minimum of 10 ninety -degree push-ups.
B. Perform a minimum of 125 sit-ups.
C. Run a mile in under 12 minutes.
Basketball
A. Execute a successful lay-up and set shot,
B Dribble the ball with both hands and with control.
C. Dribble without looking at the ball.
D. Understand and execute offensive and defensive patterns
E. Understand the rules of the game and the penalties for violations.
MAJOR ACTIVITIES:
1. Skill drills to raise individual skill levels for each sport.
2. Individual, paired and group practice.
3. Physical conditioning necessary to participate.
4. Exercise
5. Stretching
6. Jogging.
7. Strength and endurance exercises.
