Choosing Champion

History of Champion

History of Champion

Founded: Champion Christian School was founded in 1992 by Christian parents, educators and pastors who desired to give Christian youth a Christ-centered, interdenominational secondary education.  These men and women believed that the Christian home, the local church and the Christian school can work effectively together to develop young people into Godly, committed, growing disciples of Christ.

Name: The name “Champion” was selected to represent our Christian high calling. It was derived from two verses: Philippians 4:14 and Mark 16:15. As a community of Christians, there should never be a doubt we all rally to impact our world with Jesus as our Savior and Champion.

School Mascot:
A horse (Mustang) is our school mascot because it represents the characteristics of strength, courage, and tenacity that we desire to build in our students.  These are the characteristics we strive to emulate as Christians.

Early Years: The school opened its doors on September 1, 1992 with 32 students in grades 7-10.  Because of the faithful, fervent prayer and hard work of Godly men and women, Champion has grown into a stable school educating seventh grade through twelfth grade students.

Graduates: Since the first graduation in 1995 of six young women, Champion now has over 200 graduates. These graduates have been enrolled in and graduated from a number of esteemed colleges and universities around the nation.  A number of our alumni have been accepted into medical school as well as into other graduate programs.

Alumni: Our alumni are active in our community. They are or have served locally in a number of positions:  Director of Development at the Women’s Resource Clinic, volunteer coordinator at Enloe Hospital, and president of the Associated Student Body at Chico State to name a few. These join others who are leading Bible studies at Chico State, and still others who are ministering around the world.

Athletic Program: Throughout the years Champion has developed a well-rounded, well known athletic program to complement its strong academics. Beginning with a basketball program, we have built a solid, competitive program in volleyball, football, baseball, softball, track and golf.  Champion is a member in good standing with the California Interscholastic Federation, and has participated in numerous small school division leagues.

We are very proud of our students’ achievements, winning varsity division titles in football, basketball, softball, volleyball and golf in the past three years.
